“The Hidden Oracle” Should Please Percy Jackson Fans

“You hear that, guys? A batch of cookies is depending on me. If you get me killed on the way to camp, I am going to be ticked off.”

Aww, I just want to give all of these characters a big hug.

The Hidden Oracle was the perfect step back into the world of Percy Jackson. While I felt like the Heroes of Olympus series was drawn out and repetitive—oh, please, they’re fighting another monster already?this book felt fresh and more like old-school PJO.

Apollo was an awesome narrator. Zeus blamed him for starting the war with Gaea, so as punishment he took away Apollo’s powers and confined him to the body of a teenager. Apollo gets stuck with a new demigod, Meg, who takes pleasure in ordering him around, and has to face the horrors of—oh no! Acne! Flab!

Apollo was so funny and unapologetically vain, viewing himself as the best possible thing to grace the earth. But without his godly powers, he learns that mortals have it a lot tougher than he thought.

Of course, there was a fast paced, hilarious quest with a lot of angry gods and monsters popping up at every corner. Percy brings Apollo and Meg to Camp Half-Blood where demigods are going missing and some beasts have escaped the Underworld. I fangirled over old characters’ appearances, but I liked the new ones a lot, too.

As Apollo was slammed with the reality of being a mortal, he learned to become slightly more humble and value his friends. However, he never lost that narcissism to his personality that I found completely lovable and charming.

This was seriously so much fun to read—from Apollo’s awful haikus to the pop culture references that somehow fit perfectly and made me giggle. There was an awesome plot twist at the end and I got nostalgic as I reached the last page.

I can’t wait to continue with this series.
